International light festival Glow Eindhoven 2012
Glow Eindhoven 2012
It has become a tradition for the city of Eindhoven (the Netherlands) to host the International light festival ‘Glow Eindhoven’. In 2012 from November, 10th till November 17th, the city center turns again into a forum of interventions and surrealistic performances. Also, installations, events based on the discovery of artificial light art. Noteworthy, last year the studio Vollaerszwart presented the project ‘Tunnel of Love’. In the tunnel 8000 fluorescent heart-shaped pink stickers stuck to the ceiling, the walls and the floor created an awesome effect. By Replacing the TL-lights for black-lights and playing a pulsing sound-scape they created an overwhelming atmosphere filled with love.
GLOW provides a platform for artists, designers and architects who are working with light. There are exposes in public space and interaction with the city view and audience is considered a manual for the artworks. Projections, video, computers, sensor, animation; GLOW shows that the possibilities of light-art are endless. The festival has been awarded several times. GLOW won the “Eindhovense Trots Award” (Eindhovens pride award) in 2008 and was claimed to be one of the most innovative Dutch events. GLOW is the largest event in the Netherlands that specifically focuses on light art. There is a narrow cooperation with light-art-festivals in cities such as Gent (Belgium) and Jerusalem. The city of Eindhoven has made a name for itself with light, art, design and technology and keeps developing itself with it.
