The rivers of Iceland have a number of features, determined by the unique nature of the island. Characterized by a short length (up to 230 km), rapacity and swiftness, they are inadequate and have a large reserve of hydropower resources.Besides, most rivers have glacial feeding, and the maximum runoff is in the summer, during the melting of glaciers. For such rivers, floods are frequent, including very strong ones, caused by the eruption of under-ice volcanoes.
