In the United States in 2006 there were approximately 785,000 active street gang members, according to the National Youth Gang Center. But “The Gang Book 2012” conveyed a startling statistic that Chicago has more gang members than any other city in the United States: 150,000 members. Arms trafficking, theft, human trafficking, Illegal immigration, assault, extortion, hate crimes, kidnapping, murder, pandering, financial crimes, etc. The list of the main occupation of people who are in Los Angeles gangs is long. Involved in everything that can bring profit or hurt the other gang, gang members commit crimes because of hatred, revenge, or because of greed. Los Angeles has long been recognized as the epicenter of gang activity nationwide. Recent estimates indicate approximately 1,350 street gangs, with as many as 175,000 members in the FBI Los Angeles’ seven-county area of responsibility (San Luis Obispo, Santa Barbara, Ventura, Los Angeles, Riverside, San Bernardino, and Orange). Many gangs which today have a nationwide presence, such as the Bloods, the Crips, Mara Salvatrucha (MS-13), and 18th.
