The statement sinks as the ice keeps melting… Near the Oval bridge in Camden, north London. The Meteorological Organization is warning that a warming trend and the melting of Arctic ice are increasing the risks of weather disasters. 2012 has ranked among the nine warmest since records began more than 160 years ago, continuing a trend for the planet that is increasing the dangers of extreme weather events, according to United Nations meteorologists.

Young Siberian scientist Irina Mukhamedshina, 22, has trained a fox to be as obedient as a dog. The experiment was on her own initiative, she used foxes from a special Novosibirsk Institute of Cytology and Genetics farm. ‘I had seen these foxes daily, wiggling their tails and jumping to get a tiniest bit of human attention, and got really curious about the possibility of working with them the same way as I used to do with dogs’, said Irina. I moved on to the classic commands, such as ‘stand up’, ‘lie down’, ‘sit down’. It took me about three weeks of daily 15 minutes sessions to teach them do these commands.’ The foxes recognized their own names. Both foxes worked very well. Psychologically I understand them better now. Tamed foxes are not quite like dogs, they are more in between dogs and cats in how they respond to humans’.

In the Botanic Garden in Basel, Switzerland has opened Titan Arum – 2.27 meters tall monster plant with the largest unbranched inflorescence in the world. Although the plant has the smell of decomposing mammal, and is also known as the “corpse flower”, or “corpse plant”, hundreds of visitors gathered to see it blossoming. Titan Arum originates in the jungles of Sumatra. The last time Titan Arum blossomed in the Swiss botanical garden was in April 2011. Before that, the plant blossomed in Switzerland only in 1936.
